A lot of Organics the beginning....During the beef scare many years ago and due to the fact that one of my children was severally affected by food colourings I started to think about what we eat. I took stock of how I shopped and what exactly we were eating. I then consciously tried to change how I shopped and leaned towards a more natural diet. I cut back on the processed food and started to think about organic food. As the internet started to become more popular this offered a source of research for food products, especially farming methods. It was quite a scary process learning about pesticides and how they are used. Not only did it make me think about the possible effects this may have on my family but also the effect it is having on the farmers, the wildlife and the environment. My father is suffering from a cancer called Multiple Myeloma, it is thought the main cause of someone contracting this form of cancer is exposure to chemicals. Apparently this form of cancer is more common amongst farmers so it would be interesting to learn if this cancer starts to decrease in farmers as more turn to organic methods. As soon as organic food became easily available I started buying organic, although on occasion this is not possible. I never buy the high risk foods as hi-lighted by the government report which can be found on my facts page. At this moment in time there is no evidence to suggest consuming foods treated with pesticide is harmful, because reports of studies into this have either not been carried out or not publicised. However, I for one do not want to leave it to chance. As I started to extend my organic purchases to cover other produce I used the internet to find organic sites in the UK. I found this experience very frustrating and sometimes it would take me hours to find one relevant site amongst all the sites the search engines returned. I always book marked the sites as I found them and soon my favourites bar was overflowing. As I worked in web design anyway I decided to make myself a little web site that would then be available where ever I was. Although I didn't add the site to any search engines I noticed that it started to get visitors. This made me think that there are probably lots of other people like me trawling through the never ending list of sites returned by the search engines. I decided to tidy my listings up and register the site for others to use. That is how A lot of Organics the UK search engine was born. I hope you find the site helpful and would be happy to receive any comments you have. Please email andrea@alotoforganics.co.uk
